Compulsory full-body scans for Aus

Passengers passing through Australian airports will have no choice but to undergo a full body scan or cancel their travel plans under new laws the Federal Parliament hopes to introduce later this week.

With scanner installation expected in all international airports across the country from July this year, the Government has pushed for the approval of the proposed Aviation Security Amendment Bill 2012 that will remove the pat down option and make it mandatory for passengers selected to participate to undergo a full body scan, News.com reported.

Getting from Adelaide to Perth

perth at night

by Brooke | October 3rd, 2011| WhyGoAustralia.com……..Many options are available to travelers looking to get from the South Australia capital city of Adelaide to the Western Australia capital of Perth. Travelers can choose to fly (for the quickest and easiest option), take a long-distance train (for the most unique option), drive (for the more adventurous route) or hop on a bus (for a more hands-free overland approach). Heck, you might even be able to hop on a cruise going from one to the other.

The distance from Adelaide to Perth is 2100

kilometers in a straight line, so it is wise to do a bit of good planning for crossing the length in any manner other than a plane. To better plan your trip, have a look at these things to do in Perth, as well as these cheap hotels in Perth. Continue reading Getting from Adelaide to Perth

Free Rental Cars & Campervans During the Rugby World Cup

Rugby Worl Cup
RWC New Zealand

As the Rugby World cup kicks in, more questions are being raised about whether there will be any relocation vehicles, or any rental vehicles available at all for that matter,  and if so from where.  To be honest, I really do wish I had a crystal ball (as do many other businesses I’m sure) but I don’t (otherwise I would be filthy rich and not sitting at my desk right now :)).

With an estimated 80,000 visitors said to be arriving into New Zealand for the World Cup Tournament, we can only imagine that many of them will be renting cars and campervans across the country. We don’t know however, where or when they will be arriving and leaving as many will likely use this time to travel the country.

In an event like this, you might need roadside assistance, that is why the extraordinary car towing dublin services will be a great ally in these type of situations.

What I can do, is tentatively make some guesses as to where vehicles may be headed and where they may also get stranded.

So if we look at the Rugby World Cup 2011 Match Schedule we can roughly calculate where RWC fans will be headed based on the most popular matches and teams with the largest followers (national and international visitors). Continue reading Free Rental Cars & Campervans During the Rugby World Cup

Australian airports test radiation free scanners

Good news for the health conscious and frequent travellers.  Airports in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, are running tests on scanners that emit no radiation.

The BBC has reported that unlike traditional scanners which emit X-rays and “active” radiation, the T8000, developed by UK-based ThruVision Systems, uses a “passive” screening technology.

ThruVision’s scanners do not “illuminate” people with X-rays, radiation or millimeter waves. Instead, they receive terahertz waves naturally produced by objects and people. When a concealed object blocks those waves, it appears as an anomaly.

The materials that can be detected by the T8000 include weapons, explosives, liquids, gels, ceramics and narcotics.

One other upside to this new technology is that it doesn’t capture or display intimate body details which have been a concern for many travellers in the past.

Other benefits include:

Rapid screening time

No need to enter into a small confined space

Although not permanently implemented yet, these scanners have had positive results; successfully spotting contraband substances on test subjects.

Bermuda is also using ThruVision while Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are considering implementing the new scanners.
